New Horizons Photos

Mar 27, 2006 by Jared Smith

In January I had the chance to go to the Kennedy Space Center and watch the launch of the New Horizons space probe. It’s mission will take it to Pluto, where it will pass by the small ‘planet’ (really a Kuiper Belt object) when Abbie is in Middle School.

Though several miles away, I was as close as the general public could get (I think there were two guys closer). It was an absolute thrill to watch the launch of the Atlas V rocket that sent the probe on its way. I hope to return some day and watch a shuttle launch.
