Why I’m a NASCAR Fan

My name is Jared and I am a NASCAR junkie. I’ve watched every Nextel Cup race this year (I love my DVR!) and most of the Busch series races. That’s almost 70 races!

The first race I ever really watched was the 2001 Daytona 500. For those not familiar with NASCAR, the Daytona 500 is THE race of the year. It’s like the Super Bowl, only it’s the first race of the season, not the last. Men drove their cars at 200 miles per hour sometimes just inches apart. There were some crashes. Some cars had their engines blow up. I remember one of the announcers (Darrell Waltrip) crying because his kid brother won the race. Just before he crossed the finish line, there was a two car wreck behind them. A race car driver died. I didn’t even know he had died until reading it on page three of the sports section in the paper the next day. Things have really change since then. The legacy of Dale Earnhardt – his life, not his death is part of why I’m a fan.

My Right to Bear Arms

I own guns. Quite a few of them, in fact. I am grateful for the right I have to own them and for those that have provided and protected that right. I don’t consider myself a gun nut, though when at home (and often when not), I’m rarely more than a few seconds from a gun. I’m fairly active in shooting and in online gun forums. I take protecting my home and my life very seriously, as should all people. I shoot often and am pretty good at it. Because I feel passionately about the topic, and because I just feel like writing something more than a travelogue, here are the reasons I own guns:

Don’t pre-judge others

Apparently everyone on the internetz has seen this video already, but I just found it today. If you’ve ever caught yourself looking down on others just because of how they look or act, watch this and prepare to smile and/or cry.
